1. Preheat the oven and prepare the muffin tin
Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F) and grease a standard 12 hole muffin tin or line the muffin tin with muffin liners.
2. Weigh and measure the ingredients
Have your ingredients ready at the counter.
3. Make the batter
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and a pinch of salt. In a medium bowl, cream the butter with the sugar until lightened in colour. Beat in the egg, then pour in the milk and stir briefly. At that point, pour the mixture into the large bowl with flour and stir just until the ingredients are combined. Finally, add ⅔ of the chocolate chips and gently fold them in using a spatula. Fill the muffin liners with the batter, and distribute the remaining chocolate chips over the muffins.
4. Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes. Allow the muffins to cool in the muffin tin for a few minutes before removing them.
